Manor FFA members recently helped remove invasive species from the Pinnacle Overlook in a habitat restoration project designed to improve forest biodiversity.
On April 4, eight students and their advisor spent about three hours removing honeysuckle bushes and vines and multiflora rose bushes from the Pinnacle Overlook in Susquehannock State Park.
Removing these invasive species gives native plants a better chance of survival and improves the forest biodiversity.
The students, members of the FFA’s Manor Cares Committee, began the day with a lesson from Kelly Ford, an environmental education specialist with the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
“We should be able to see results on new native vegetation growing within the next year” as a result of the students’ efforts, Ford said.
Manor Cares hopes to make this an annual project. Many thanks to Ford, these students and their advisor, Mara Tate, for their efforts.
