Forty-two members of the Penn Manor National Honor Society (NHS) helped clean up the community as part of Penn Manor’s Day of Caring, held April 12.
The students partnered with Manor and Conestoga Townships, and the Penn Manor Athletic and Building and Grounds Departments on several projects.
They cleaned up litter and debris at the high school practice field, under the bleachers, in the parking deck, and at Comet Field.
Students also removed 2,100 pounds of trash from the Little Conestoga watershed and spread mulch throughout the playground area at the Enola Low Grade Trail parking lot.
They completed a similar cleanup project in Manor Township.
“What a fantastic day of service,” said Mark Harris, the township’s public works director. “The students did an outstanding job. All the playground mulch was spread, and the cleanup along the Little Conestoga was very successful.”
At Pequea Elementary, students cleaned the exterior of the school, updated the exterior sign and cleaned up and weeded the courtyard.
The projects were “a powerful reminder of how service can bring people together and foster a sense of pride in both school and community,” said Michelle Boland, an NHS advisor and event organizer.
This is the third year for the Penn Manor Day of Caring, which is modeled after the United Way Day of Caring.
Many thanks to the students who participated, and Ms. Boland and co-adviser Katie Struble for organizing and supervising this event.
