Marticville Middle School seventh-grader Addelyn Brown recently earned a first-place award in a statewide photo competition.
Addie’s photograph earned the People’s Choice award in the Young Photographers category of the “Leap In” contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation.
Her winning photo, of a log covered in moss, was taken during a family trip to Rickett’s Glen State Park last summer. Addie used an iPhone for that image, but also uses a Nikon camera.
She’s been interested in photography since she was 8 years old and completed an Xello career exploration program in grade school that suggested photography as a possible interest.
Addie completed a photography class at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design last summer and plans to study photo editing and enroll in photography classes when she attends Penn Manor High School.
Her mother, Jessica Brown, told her about the photo contest.
Addelyn’s winning photograph will hang in the East Wing Rotunda of the State Capitol Building in Harrisburg through April.
Congratulations to Addie, and best wishes for a photo-filled future!
